MESSAGE FROM A
HAPPY CAMPER (2007)!
Thank you so much for sending me to CYL camp. I had the time of my life and made many friends and memories that I know I can never possibly forget. We did so much in such a short period of time, it was so amazing. Just a few of the really fun things we did are "monk dinners" and co-operative (when our hands are all tied together) dinner, and we put on a really impressive talent show, played a lot of soccer and volley ball on the beach and my personal favourite was something called Talking Stick. It's when we all sit in a circle and pass around this sacred walking stick and can only talk when its in our hands. During this quiet evening activity our group of 32 people got closer than anyone ever imagined. We also got to do exciting things such as learning about many different credit unions and cooperatives. We had a lot of great speakers, some of which even played a really cool educational game called the Fair Game with us. Also we took a field trip to Meridian Credit Union and we got to mystery sop about 5 different banks in the area in Orangeville. It was really interesting. Probably the most inspiring lesson we learned about was when our facilitator conducted a session on HIV AIDS in Africa. It was so powerful and I hope to travel and help their situation out one day. All in all it was an absolutely unbelievable experience. I believe that every kid deserves to get the chance to strive to become a Co-operative Young Leader and have all the fun along the way. My favourite lesson I learnt was that everyone deserves love, dignity and respect. In conclusion thank you for providing this opportunity for me and I really hope to return next year.
Co-operatively yours, S.G.

CYL Summer Camp Sponsorship
In 2008, YNCU will sponsor 4 youths aged 14-17 to participate in a unique leadership and personal development experience
Co-operative Young Leaders Program (CYL) in the Junior and Intermediate sessions during July and August 2008.
The CYL provides a fun, stimulating and safe environment where young people learn about - and practice - communication, self-awareness and leadership through co-operative activities. A typical day may include sessions, skits, co-op tours, sports or a guest speaker. Sessions are collaborative, and participants are encouraged to share in the day-to-day leadership and management of the program.
And they have a whole lot of fun in the process! To view a short video click here
